2009 Charity Desk Calendar Now On Sale!

Photographers Without Borders is proud to announce the release of its second charity desk calendar. The calendar contains fine art photographs submitted by photographers from around the world.

Proceeds raised from the sale of the calendar will fund projects already underway at Photographers Without Borders. Money will be set aside for the Photographers Without Borders scholarship fund in preparation for the 2009/2010 school year.

Photographers Without Borders President and Founder Phil Spitze notes, “The Board of Directors and I are very pleased with the outstanding response we received from the photographic community at large on this project. I am excited that fine art photography can drive people to action to make our world and our future a better place to live. As a photographer, I am thrilled at the global impact this art form can make.”

Photographers Without Borders is also offering special bulk pricing to schools and organizations that would like to use the calendar for their own fund-raiser.

2009 Charity Desk Calendar

Our 2009 Charity Desk Calendar is almost ready and we are very excited with how the finished product is coming. New for this year we will be creating a Google map to plot the locations of where each photograph was taken. Also new this year, each photographer will be posting to this blog on the month their photo is featured. We think this is an excellent way to learn more about the photo, the location, and the photographer.

Check back soon for purchase information!

Earth Day, 2008

Happy Earth Day, Everyone!

To quote Louis Armstrong, "What a wonderful world" - whatever way you choose to show your support of Earth Day, 2008, we hope it is meaningful and long lasting. Of course, we'd love to have you purchase our Collectible Earth Day Stamp Set, but we know there are a lot of ways to care for our Mother Earth. So, take a look around and

...see trees of green, red roses too.
I see them bloom, for me and you.
And I think to myself... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white.
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world...

All our best,

Jamie, Jay and Phil

eBay for Education, eBay to Save the Arts!

Help Us Raise Funds When You Sell & Shop on eBay!

This February and March, eBay Giving Works (eBay's dedicated program
for charity listings), will be shining a Spotlight on Saving the Arts.
eBay is encouraging everyone to raise money for organizations that
foster and exhibit artists' work, including Photographers Without
Borders!

How to Use eBay Giving Works
Of course you can always use eBay Giving Works to list items and
donate part or all of the final sale prices to us. But during
Spotlight on Saving the Arts, eBay will focus special attention on our
organization and the listings that benefit us. It's a wonderful
opportunity to raise awareness and funds for our mission!

Giving to Photographers Without Borders with eBay Giving Works just
takes a minute. The next time you list an item on eBay, simply go to
the Sell tab and:

1) Click "Customize your listing" (it says this form is for
experienced sellers, but anyone can use it)
2) Look for the "Choose how you'd like to sell your item" area and
click the More Options link, then check the "Donate a percentage of
sale" box and click Save
3) Choose "Select a new nonprofit"
4) In the pop-up window that appears, type "Photographers Without
Borders" in the Nonprofit Name or Keyword field
5) Select Photographers Without Borders* and a percentage (10-100%)
you wish to donate to us (please note: there is a $5 minimum donation
if your item sells)

Enjoy the Benefits!
Your listing will benefit from several unique program features that
have been proven to attract more buyers and raise awareness of our
cause such as the eBay Giving Works ribbon and enhanced
search-ability.

eBay Rewards Your Generosity
Better yet, when your listing sells, it will automatically qualify for
the eBay Giving Works Fee Credit Policy! As always, every donation is
tax deductible and MissionFish will provide you with the tax-receipt
under "My Funds Donated" in your MissionFish account.

You can also support us by shopping on eBay! Be sure to visit our
MissionFish page www.missionfish.org/pwob on a regular basis – you'll
find a list of all items currently live on eBay, with part or all of
their final sale price going to Photographers Without Borders!

* MissionFish is the nonprofit that powers eBay Giving Works. If this
is your first time using eBay Giving Works, you will be prompted to
create a free MissionFish account

One Laptop Per Child

In support of our mission, Photographers Without Borders made a cash donation to the One Laptop Per Child foundation (www.laptop.org).

View our Press Release.

The OLPC Response:

3 Jan 2008

Dear Phil,

Thank you for your contribution of [cash] to the One Laptop per Child
Foundation. Further we confirm that no tangible benefits were received by you,
the donor, in exchange for the gift referenced above.

The mission of the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) movement is to ensure that every
school-aged child in the lesser-developed parts of the world is able to engage
effectively with their own personal laptop, networked to the world, so that
they, their families and their communities can openly collaborate as they learn
and learn about learning together.

The OLPC Foundation is focused on enhancing and sustaining learning among those
children, their families and communities in lesser developed communities by
ensuring rich, diverse and open access to innovative learning materials and by
encouraging interactive learning, communication and exploration with their XO
laptops. For this purpose the Foundation provides grants and other support for
the development and use of collaborative learning resources and other
initiatives that enrich children’s learning and learning about learning. We
will also provide support the purchase of laptops for children.

Your contribution will help us move forward with these important programs for
children. Please tell your friends and colleagues about the One Laptop per
Child program (www.laptop.org) and encourage them also to support our mission.

Sincerely,

Robert D. Fadel
Treasurer,
One Laptop per Child Foundation
